Sheet music for solo vibraphone
This music for vibraphone requires a particular technique for its interpretation. Two different pairs of mallets are needed to achieve quick changes in pitch, allowing the creation of a coherent and diverse musical line.
The cohesion of the musical line is a stylization of Beethoven’s traditional phrasing; but in this piece, the sounds and harmonies used are contemporary. The diversity of timbres which alternate abruptly creates a polyphony around a monody. The tension between the cohesion and divergence of the melodic line is resolved at the end of the piece by one sound finally absorbing the other to form a single sonority.
