Description
Sonata K. 203 in E minor – Domenico Scarlatti
Transcription by Bruno Giner for two marimbas
“To the 555 harpsichord sonatas composed between 1738 and 1757 Domenico Scarlatti gave the title of “exercises” (Essercizi)
The present transcription is based on the edition closest to Scarlatti‘s original text, and, in keeping with the writing of the period, does not include any indication of nuances, phrasing or articulations. The movement indications and written ornaments are by Scarlatti, the numbered classification is Kirkpatrick‘s (usual).
The baroque style having many stylistic particularities (phrasing, ornamentation, etc.) I advise to listen to several versions of harpsichordists (Wanda Landowska, Scott Ross, Gustav Leonhardt, Pierre Hantai, etc.)”. Bruno Giner
“Do not expect, whether you are a dilettante or a teacher, to find in these compositions a profound intention, but rather an ingenious badinage of the art to exercise you in the audacious play on the harpsichord” Domenico Scarlatti (1738)
