Francisco Alvarado
Francisco Alvarado
A composer, sound artist and performer driven by a deep-seated curiosity, he approaches each new project as an opportunity to explore, discover and collaborate. At the heart of his recent work is a desire to blur the boundaries between genres, and to strike a balance between the familiar and the strange. In addition to orchestral and chamber music, Francisco frequently incorporates electronics into his compositions, often within music-theater and film projects.
He studied composition at the Universidad Católica de Chile, then continued his studies with Stefano Gervasoni at the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique et de Danse de Paris. Between 2013 and 2015, he participated in Cursus 1 & 2 at IRCAM in Paris.
Francisco regularly collaborates with contemporary artists, creating projects that explore common interrogations. His collaborators include Maëlle Dequiedt, Mohamed Mbougar Sarr, Florentin Ginot, Alex W. Inker and Rémy Reber, among others.
His work has been widely recognized, receiving awards such as the Festival Musica Academy Prize and the CDMC Prize at Madrid’s INJUVE Academy. His compositions have been commissioned by prestigious institutions such as the Donaueschinger Musiktage, the MUSICA festival, IRCAM, the Festival Messiaen, the Fondation Royaumont, Radio France, the CNSMDP, the ensemble C Barré, and United Instruments of Lucilin, among others.
Francisco was artist-in-residence at the Fondation Camargo in Cassis in 2017 and, between 2019 and 2021, at United Instruments of Lucilin, SWR’s ExperimentalStudio and GMEM. Since 2024, he has been pursuing a doctorate as part of the SACRe program in Paris.
