This piece originates from Igor Stravinsky’s third piece for string quartet (1914), a kind of litanic chorale, harmonized in a dissonant way. The theme is heard at the beginning and followed by twelve variations of different character, style and tempo, all of which seek to highlight the virtuosity or harmonic dimension of the marimba.
The Stravinskyenne was written for the percussion prize exam of the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique de Lyon.
