Description
Mareta, Mareta, no’m faces plorar – Daniel Tosi
Score for 6 voices and a percussionist.
This work for six voices and a percussionist is built like a great lullaby in nine subparts.
The chosen theme is a Catalan-Valencian rhyme that has crossed the centuries.
Of the nine small songs or cantus, three are ad libitum (numbers 3, 5, 8) and optional.
Each of these cantus involves at least one vocal quartet and one solo singer, plus the percussionist.
Some singers can also become percussionists in turn.
It is requested to provide the necessary percussion equipment.
The interventions being very simple, the part of the soloist in the various cantus is always outside, above the other voices. She leads this lullaby, supported by the other protagonists.
For the pronunciation, we will rely on a French diction, the poem being divided into different phonetic onomatopoeias to be sung in the most traditional way.
This work was written at the request of Roland Hayrabedian, for his ensemble Musicatreize. Premiere on June 12, 2013 in Marseille, cultural capital of Europe.
Nomenclature:
Six singers: 2 sopranos, 1 alto, 2 tenors, 1 bass.
