Description
Marimba Concerto N° 3 “Notre Dame de Paris’ – Chin-Cheng Lin – Reduction piano
Concerto for six mallets marimba soloist and orchestra. Piano reduction
Marimba Concerto No. 3, Notre-Dame de Paris, is a theatrical and dramatic work inspired by Victor Hugo’s novel Notre-Dame de Paris (The Hunchback of Notre-Dame).
The concerto consists of three movements, each named after one of the story’s central characters: Phoebus de
Châteaupers, La Esmeralda, and Quasimodo.
The marimba soloist represents Esmeralda and, through these three movements, tells a tragic and heartbreaking
story of love, desire, and fate.
The work places considerable technical demands on the soloist, particularly through the use of six-mallet marimba
technique. At the same time, virtuosity is never the sole focus; musical expression, character, and dramatic storytelling remain equally important.
