Soleil Noir by Christophe de Coudenhove

Sheet music for vibraphone and tape

Soleil Noirtries to capture the atmosphere that emanates from the novels of the great American writer from the South, William Faulkner: the fictional Yoknapatawpha County and its vast expanses of cotton, the town of Jefferson, its courthouse and jail, its houses with white galleries and columns, its slave songs, and its obscure characters such as the Snopes family.

Soleil Noir also wants to evoke by its sound substance the intense light of a burning summer sun, a universe of heat and violent glare whose perception is materialized by a veil obstructing the vision.

Soleil Noir also delves into the field of the relationship between the instrument and the tape, trying to bring original and rich solutions, with a complex meaning and analysis “Christophe de Coudenhove.

Soleil Noir was premiered at the Aujourd’hui Musiques festival in Perpignan on November 17, 2003 by Philippe Limoge.
