This “Suite d’un goût étrange” is a tribute to Marin Marais’s almost eponymous “Suite d’un goût étranger”, 33 short, particularly inventive character pieces.

Bruno Giner drew his inspiration freely, retaining only a form in five movements, some of which take their titles from various pieces by Marin Marais:

“Prélude”, “La Bizarre” (piece n° 23 de M. Marais), “Gavotte en goût de théorbe” (inspired by piece en style de luth n° 31), “Rondeau en badinage”(piece n° 33), “La Fougade”(piece n° 22).

Beyond this simple relationship of titles, the idea was to treat the bass viol with the same freedom of invention, a freedom proportional to each era, of course.
