“Memoria Lejana” is a piece for solo flute dedicated to flutist Sandrine François.

Its title, “Distant Memory,” evokes the traces that time leaves on our perception—somewhere between memory, reminiscence, and a drive toward the present.

The piece unfolds in three contrasting movements: a Prelude, in which the melodic line engages in a dialogue with a strong rhythmic energy; a sung and rhythmic Improvisation, which explores the voice through breath, song, and body percussion with great expressive freedom; and finally, “Dance(s),” in which the initial material reappears as a transformed memory, before giving way to two dances of jubilant virtuosity.
