Papillon – Michel Pascal

Piece for clarinet and electronic sounds.

The clarinet’s harmonics unfold towards the treble, diffracting the timbre as the wings of a butterfly would with light. The electronics also have pleasure in extending their range to the extreme bass.

These short, easy-to-play studies for solo instrument and electronics were designed in collaboration with conservatory instrument teachers for young students.

Their aim is to familiarize young instrumentalists with electronic sounds, some unusual techniques for their instrument that are common in contemporary music, and the reading of a strictly conventionally notated electronic part.
