Timpanissima – Amaury Vanlancker

Timpanissima is a collection of 12 solo pieces, for 2, 3 and 4 timpani, at the graduate level.

The pieces of this collection are not classified in a precise order.

The pieces are for 2, 3 and 4 timpani, in order to allow the students to adapt and progressively place themselves in front of the different timpani.

These pieces, which have the names of roses as titles, give an indication of the interpretation to be given to the pieces by their phonetics, leaving place to the musical imagination.

With the different modes of playing (in the center, at the edge, near the circle), the artistic and scenic dimension to be given during the execution of the pieces is essential: the interpretation is in the center of these pieces.

The tempi indications allow to adapt to each student the best tempo that suits him without distorting the general idea of the indicated tempo and to keep a certain freedom; mainly during the cadences.

These 12 pieces for timpani alone can be played during auditions or evaluations (with technical criteria such as: the rolls, the phrasing, the interpretation, the artistic dimension of the musician during
the performance…)
