Xérémiès – Franck Masquelier

This piece for alto flute (or flute in C) solo was written in 2010 to be performed in the performance Vous n’y pensez pas Rosalie created with the Ensemble Laborintus.

The title Xeremiès evokes the Xeremia instrument which is a type of bagpipe originating in Occitania during the Kingdom of Aragon, and which developed notably in Catalonia. This instrument is notably used in a repertoire of traditional dances.
This piece is therefore written in the spirit of traditional improvisation with a common thread from the beginning to the end of the piece. The Voice is therefore particularly present.

The words used in this piece refer to a piece for solo clarinet J’ai besoin d’air by Jacques Rebotier, and must therefore be dramatized.
